Core Bits & Drill Bits!
Core Bits & Drill Bits

If you own a power drill, you know this is a multitasking tool that makes it easier to get things done around the house; it makes holes fast, works as a screwdriver and is a great tool for woodworking and even metalworking.

If you’ve been using your drill for a while, you’ve probably had to get a few different drill bits. Most people start with a basic set of HSS drill bits. When they come across a project that requires a special drill bit, they make a trip to the hardware store, in search of the right bit to finish the job.

There are lots of drill bits that are nice to have on hand. Two types of bits that are especially useful are glass drill bits and core bits.

There are a few different materials that will work when it comes to drilling hole in glass. Some people think that the best glass drill bits are diamond drill bits. These bits have embedded diamonds on the tip that makes drilling through a piece of glass simple and fast.

Another option for glass drill bits is a HSS bit with a spear tip. This tip will start by making a precise hole into the glass; the rest of the drill bit can quickly grind out a hole in the glass. The key to working with glass drill bits is to keep your drill speed on the lowest settings and carefully and gradually grind out the hole in the glass.

Core bits are used on projects that require cutting or drilling through a hard material, such as concrete or masonry. For many projects, such as cutting bricks or concrete blocks, you can’t start by simply cutting through the blocks. If you do, you’ll go through a lot of diamond saw blades.

Instead, you start by using core bits to start a pilot hole, or a series of pilot holes. Again, diamond bits is often are great core bits when working with concrete or masonry. It starts be creating a small hole and crumbling the concrete or brick. This hole is then used by the saw, the blade has a slight indentation to catch on and further increase the grinding of the material.

Getting the right drill bit can make a big difference in how quickly you finish a project, and how long your drill lasts. The right drill bit gets the job done, but the wrong drill bit could ruin the project, the drill bit and power drill.   Save yourself these headaches, check out entire line of drill bits  and core bits to make sure you have the tools you need.
